KS3 Awards Evening

13 Jul 2016

Last evening we hosted our annual KS3 Awards Evening.  This celebrates the attainment and progress of Years 7, 8 and 9 students across the curriculum.  Up to 90 boys received awards.  The guests of honour were Mr Trakas-Lawlor, former student and current Mayor of Croydon, and Mr George Brookes, a member of our first ever cohort in 1929.  We were also pleased to welcome a number of Governors to the event, including Mrs MacGowan MBE who had rushed back from her own MBE presentation at the Palace to be with us!

Each subject presented six Awards, accompanied by a short speech by a teacher representing the subject.  We had showcases from our Poet Laureate, James Parker, from KS3 Drama Club and from Samba Jamba!  The evening was hosted expertly by Mrs Butcher and Miss Carquez along with a range of celebratory, well-chosen music tracks to illuminate the event.

It was rounded off with a presentation to the KS3 teacher of the year by Mr McCullagh. All Award winners nominate a teacher and for 2015-16, the winner overall was Mr Bayley: a very well deserved accolade for a very popular young teacher.

This was a great way to end the academic year, and to reward so many of our hard-working, enthusiastic students.  Thank are due to Mrs Butcher and Miss Carquez for organising the event, which was clearly “one of the highlights of the year” (Mr McCullagh).
