Key Stage 4 Pathways

In Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 & 9) all students follow a broad and balanced curriculum, designed to introduce them to all the main subject areas and to provide them with the skills to build a solid foundation for further studies.

The Year 9 programme is unique in that, students will also have lessons in Economics, Sports Studies and Careers.  We believe that these experiences will help prepare the students for the Key Stage 4 pathway choices.

In Key Stage 4 (Years 10 & 11), all students must continue to follow a set of core subjects - this is a legal requirement of the National Curriculum.  Beyond these core subjects there is choice so that individual interests and talents can be developed, to include the English Baccaulaureate (EBacc) pathway which is strongly encouraged.

Students, parents/carers will receive guidance and support during the spring term to make sure that they are fully aware of what is involved in each of the optional subjects studied (in Years 10 & 11).  The Options Evening in the spring term is an opportunity for students to find out more about each subject, there is also additional information in the Key Stage 4 Pathways booklet.

Finally, parents/carers are invited in to tour the school and drop in on lessons in the optional subjects.

If you have any questions or queries, please email  johnfisherschool@johnfisherschool.org for the attention of Mr Jones, Assistant Headteacher.
