The Panathlon Challenge is a national charity which provides sporting opportunities for disabled young people each year. A multi sports event for South London Disability Primary Schools was held at The John Fisher Sports Hall on Wednesday 26th April. Eight Primary Schools from around South London took part, including local schools St Giles and Gresham’s. Our Year Twelve Sports Leaders led by Mr Cody (our Cricket Coach and Leadership organizer) supervised each station and helped the children with their skills development. Primary Panathlon sports include parachute popcorn, polybat, precision bean bag, new age kurling, boccia blast, flight path, Messi football skills and table cricket.
This was a full morning’s activity and really took our students out of their comfort zones putting them in challenging positions which they had not experienced before. Every one of them performed admirably giving the Primary School children a memorable morning which they really enjoyed. All the schools thanked the students for their hardwork, here is one of the comments we received from one of the Headteachers:
‘Thank you for organising and giving them the opportunity to compete against other schools .My colleagues commented how well it was organised and also how good the young leaders were with the children. It's really great to hear as we have been to many events where the support hasn't been so good and it really does impact the day. I understand the boys were super role models and I would be grateful if you could forward that to whoever was responsible for them at John Fisher.’
