Shakespeare for Schools Festival 'Play in a Day'

16 Mar 2016

Recently a group of our students from all Year groups spent the whole day taking part in a theatre workshop with the Shakespeare Festival Drama Group. The courses are run in schools nationwide by a team of experienced facilitators employed by the company.

The activities included Team building workshop games, interactive theatre exercises, an introduction to Macbeth and an analysis of text and language.

The course benefited our students by:

  • Enhancing understanding of Shakespearean language and prose.

  • Developing understanding of plot, theme and characters.

  • Raising levels of confidence and teamwork capabilities.

  • Giving a wider appreciation of cultural and historical contexts of the text.

  • Increasing communication and presentation skills.

After a whole day’s preparation our students performed a shortened version of Macbeth to their parents/carers, staff and governors of John Fisher which was well received.

We would like to thank Naomi and Jenny from the Shakespeare for Schools Festival and to Miss Tyrell, our Subject Leader for Drama, for organising the event and providing support to the leaders and our students throughout the day.
