Tom Brake's visit to The John Fisher School

10 Jun 2016

On Friday 20th May, Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake, visited our school. A group of Year 9 and Year 10 students were selected to meet Mr Brake. Mr Brake gave us a talk about the jobs that he has done in his Parliamentary career (including Chief Whip). Mr Brake also talked about his party the Liberal Democrats and how they have done in recent years, including the disappointing General Election.

After Mr Brake’s talk it was our chance to ask some questions. Of course, the hot topic was the EU referendum. Mr Brake said that one of the main reasons that he wants to stay in the EU is because trade costs will become higher if we leave. We also quizzed him on the new Lord Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, his vision of an ideal Britain, the plight of the migrants and the main man himself, Donald Trump. It was clear that Mr Brake feels that it is possible that we could enter another Cold War if we support Donald Trump’s policies.

Jude Stas 10N thanked Mr Brake on behalf of the school for giving his time to come to John Fisher and answer our questions.
