Last Saturday afternoon the Juniors won the team cross country competition at Charterhouse in a strong field of 80 runners, keeping up our tradition of winning this race over a number of years.

Last week saw our continued commitment to supporting Macmillan Cancer Support with the staff holding their annual Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Thursday 26th September. This annual event raised over £100 towards the charity’s aim of raising £20M on the day in order to help people living with cancer.

Well done to the John Fisher Choir who once again took part in 'The Last Night of the Croydon Proms' last Saturday evening at the Fairfield Halls. The only school invited to perform at this popular event, the boys shared the platform with Croydon Symphony Orchestra, the Croydon Philharmonic Choir, the Chandos Choir and the East Surrey Choral Society.

Congratulations to Ryan and Alex Galvin in Year 10 who recently took part in the highly competitive Hever Castle Triathlon series for the second time. The event requires an 300m openwater swim, 8km cycle and 4km run.

I am delighted to inform you that our two Deputy Headboys, Liam Lane and Dominic Graham have been selected to represent student leaders for World Teachers' Day at the only UK event, in London on Sunday 5th October. Liam and Dominic will be speaking alongside a superb line up of speakers at the event.

On 15 September, a group of John Fisher students launched JFS2, a High Altitude Weather Balloon which they had constructed at school. JFS2 incorporated improvements to last year’s flight in order to reduce the size of the tracking computer and batteries, and included a video camera for inflight footage rather than just a stills camera.

Congratulations to our maths teacher, Mr Ian Allen, who last weekend completed a gruelling 300 mile cycle ride from Ashford to Amsterdam in support of Rianna's Fund. This charity has been set up in memory of Rianna Davenport who was tragically killed in January 2003, aged 8, when a tree collapsed at her school.

Congratulations to Tom Willis in Year 13 who yesterday completed the Great North Run in support of the charity SENSE which supports and campaigns for children and adults who are deafblind. Tom played rugby for the school on Saturday afternoon against Hurstpierpoint and then travelled up to Newcastle early on Sunday morning, completed the half-marathon in an impressive 1 hour and 46 minutes, before returning straight home!

Congratulations to Martyn Rooney who at last week's European Athletics Championships in Zurich won Gold in the individual 400M and the 400M Relay representing Great Britain. Martyn was a pupil at The John Fisher School from 1998 – 2005 and regularly represented the school in athletics and cross-country.
