We are delighted to have received our Alps certificate for 2014 which is now on display in our school reception. We are again ranked in the top 10% of schools nationally for our A Level performance over the past three years.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Fr Anthony Richins who passed away on Saturday, 3 January, aged 82, after a short illness. Fr Anthony taught at John Fisher from 1962 to 1975.

This week the updated John Fisher School Prayer Book is being distributed to every boy and teacher at our school. At assemblies this week each boy will be presented with their personal copy of this new prayer book, and we are particularly pleased that both Bishop Paul and Bishop Howard are with us on two of these occasions.

This week we launched Show My Homework to pupils and parents at The John Fisher School, a free to use online tool that shows all of our boy’s homework and deadlines.

As part of the initial phasing in of this new scheme parents can start to check what homework has been set for their sons by visiting our school’s website homepage, where they can log-in to Show My Homework.

As part of the Year 10 Giving Nation project our Year Leaders agreed to wear fancy-dress costumes on the last day of term in support of the Great Ormond Street Hospital and a charity raising funds for local student Lolly Dobbe.

Last Wednesday Year 12 BTEC Business Studies students visited the Coca-Cola factory in Sidcup, Kent. They were given a marketing presentation where the boys asked informative questions and responded with some excellent answers to the marketer’s question; showing the amount of research they have been completing as part of their Btec unit on marketing.

Forty-eight Year 9 students travelled to the city of Bruges in Belgium; awarded the status of World Heritage Site of UNESCO in 2000 followed by European Capital of Culture and is referred to as The Venice of the North due to its canal system.

On Saturday 13 December, Mark Higgins, an Old Boy of John Fisher, was ordained to the Deaconate at St. John’s Seminary, Wonersh. Mark is currently in his sixth year of study at Wonersh and throughout that time has been a frequent visitor to John Fisher where he has given numerous talks about Seminary life and the Catholic Faith. He has also maintained strong ties with many of our current and recent students.

Year 11 pupils received their mock results today as if they were the real thing, in order to replicate the experience they will face next August when they receive their actual GCSE grades.

Year 8 pupils are making mince pies this week to raise money for CAFOD. They were due to be making jam tarts this week anyway, so with just a small tweak mince pies seemed to be more appropriate treat to sell for this fantastic charity. Each boy doubled their normal quantity and these were then sold at break and lunchtime to pupils and teachers.
