The 84th English Schools Athletics Championships, the showcase event of schools' track and field, was held on Friday and Saturday at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. The John Fisher School had the largest representation of any single school representing Surrey with three pupils in the county team. Surrey finishing as the overall winners of the annual competition.

On Thursday Year 9 students laid a wreath on behalf of The John Fisher School at the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing at the nightly Last Post Ceremony on the first evening of their two-day visit to the First World War Battlefields of France & Belgium.

On Tuesday 8th July, Year 9 had a visit from the Hands On Maths Roadshow, with Frances Watson of Cambridge University. The purpose of this visit was to develop mathematical thinking and strategic reasoning skills through hands-on mathematical games, puzzles and activities. The pupils had the opportunity to engage in mathematical discussion, investigation and problem solving.

Some of the A Level geographers visited London Docklands this week specifically to study the decline and subsequent regeneration of this part of London. The visit included a talk at the Docklands Museum about the redevelopment issues by a knowledgeable member of staff who had lived in the area for 50 years and had therefore experienced the changes first hand. A number of these students are hoping to start a geography degree next year.

One of the highlights of Sixth Form Activity Week is undoubtably Question Time, which took place on Monday in our school chapel. Organised by Mr Dawkins and chaired by Mrs Englefield, five representatives from various political parties faced a range of questions posed by students in the audience in the same style as the popular BBC programme.

Congratulations to Bamidele Fadahunsi who has been appointed as our new Head Boy, and to Dominic Graham and Liam Lane who are the Deputy Headboys. They will make a very impressive team of senior students who will lead the school in the next academic year.

All Year 7 pupils visited the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden and Chaldon Church last week as part of a combined Humanities field day. Local studies play an important part in Year 7 History and Geography.

On Wednesday 25th June, 20 boys in Years 7 - 9, the 789i group, went to St Giles to help support their sports day. Our Year 12 BTEC Sports students were running different events which included a sensory tunnel, curling and bowling. The younger students were attached to particular group of St Giles students, who had dressed in a particular colour.

Warmest congratulations to the following John Fisher pupils who, after months of study and preparation, received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Hendricks in our School Chapel on Friday 20th June. In addition, Roberta Haywood of Upper Norwood Parish received the Sacrament at the same time.
